First Half Struggles Doom Lumberjacks

17 first half turnovers and a 32% shooting percentage would be to much for the Lumberjack women's basketball team to overcome Tuesday night as they fell to Northland Community and Technical College 83-56.

Both teams struggled to find their footing early in the first quarter. Karrington Eugene got things going for the Jacks on both ends with six points and five rebounds. It would be a 12-4 run by the Pioneers to end the first quarter that would swing momentum in their favor. After one quarter NCTC led 22-12. In the second quarter the turnover bug would bite DCB as the Lumberjacks would commit 11 turnovers. Hanna Plumbtree would try and keep the Jacks in it with 11 points in the quarter, but the Pioneers were able to pull away and lead 49-27 at halftime.

Turnovers would remain an issue for DCB coming out of the halftime break as the Pioneers would force nine more turnovers in the third. However, the Jacks were able to stay with NCTC in the third thanks to a group effort on the offensive end Plumbtree, Amari Butler, and Rozalind Strong would each score five points in the quarter. The fourth quarter saw a pair of quick buckets from Butler and Jewels Lone Fight to cut into the Pioneers lead. The deficit would be too much to overcome however and NCTC would pick up the win 83-56.

Plumbtree would lead the Jacks and tie for high point honors on the night with 18 points on the bench she also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Butler and Strong joined her in double-figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Emma Osborn led the Pioneers and joined Plumbtree with high honors with 18 points.

The Jacks now move to 3-3 overall. DCB travels to Jamestown Thursday for a game with the Jimmies JV team. Tip-off set for 5:00p.m.
