Jacks Score 113 Twice in Weekend Sweep

The Lumberjacks women's basketball team scored 113 points on back-to-back night enroute to a pair of wins at the DCB Classic. On Friday night the Jacks defeated Vermillion 113-50 and Saturday they took down St Boniface 113-38.

113-50 Win over Vermillion

Amari Butler would get things going on both ends of the floor for DCB in the first quarter swiping 6 steals and scoring 12 points in the opening stanza. The Jacks defense would give the Ironhawks fits forcing 16 turnovers in the quarter. After one quarter DCB held a 28-13 lead. It would be more of the same in the second quarter as the DCB defense held Vermillion to just seven points in the quarter. On the offensive side of the ball Kiara Comeaux would keep things rolling for the Jacks with 11 points in the quarter and dished out four assists. Rozalind Strong would knock down a pair of three pointers in the quarter and have eight points.  As a team the Jacks shot 68.8% from the field in the second quarter. At the half DCB led 56-20. In the third quarter Hanna Plumbtree and Karrington Eugene would pace the offense with 9 and 8 points respectively. The Jacks defense showed up again in the third holding the Ironhawks to just ten points in the quarter. In the four quarter Comeaux and BrandeeRhae Mays lead the Jacks scoring attack with 7 points apiece. The fourth quarter would be the most competitive quarter of the contest with the Jacks taking the quarter 24-20 and the game 113-50.

Butler would lead six Jacks in double figures with 28 points and added a double-double with 10 steals. Comeaux would score 21 points and have a double-double with 10 rebounds. Plumbtree would score 18 points off the bench, Strong would drop in 17 points, Eugene would be the third Jack with a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Mays would round out the double-digit scorers with 12 points. Ceryiah Bradford would lead the Ironhawks and all scorers with 29 points.

113-38 Win over St Boniface

Saturday's game saw much of the same story as Friday the Jacks defense result in instant offense for DCB. Butler would lead the offensive attack with 14 points. On the defensive side of the ball the Jacks caused chaos with 14 turnovers and only allowed the Rouges to score 10 points. In the second quarter DCB would shoot 60% from the field and be led by Comeaux with 9 points. The Jack's defense was locked in again in the second stanza only giving up 11 points to go into the half up 50-21. DCB's offense was firing on all cylinders in the third quarter shooting 71% from the field and having all seven players score including four scoring at least six points. On the defense DCB would allow just nine points and force 11 turnovers. Strong would set the tempo in the fourth quarter with 12 points. For the second straight quarter the Jacks forced 11 turnovers and held the Rouges to less then 10 points. DCB would win by a final score of 113-38.

Butler would lead the Jacks in scoring for the second consecutive night with 30 points. She would be joined in double-figures by Strong and Comeaux who each poured in 24 points. Comeaux added 13 assists and 10 steals for a triple-double. For the second consecutive night Eugene pulled in a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Sydney Rudncki led the Rouges with 10 points. As a team the Jacks dished out 33 assists and forced 44 St Boniface turnovers.

With the win DCB moves to 3-2 overall. Next up the Jacks travel to Northland on Tuesday for another non-conference game. Tip-off set for 5:30p.m.
