Ladyjacks Drop Tight Game to Royals

The DCB Ladyacks and Lake Region State College Royals went down to the wire Wednesday night with the Royals pulling away late to win 65-56.

Both offenses struggled to get going in the first quarter. Alyssa St Pierre powered the DCB offense scoring the teams first nine points.  The first Ladyjack to score that was not St Pierre was Jacie Hall when Koylynn Gulliford found Hall underneath for two points to give DCB the lead at 11-9. Gulliford had a team high six assists in the contest. Kyra Fitzgerald would knock down three free throws to give the Royals the lead back. Sabra Peterson would answer for the Ladyjacks with a 3-point shot from the wing to give the lead right back to DCB. Fitzgerald responded back for LRSC with a corner three. The teams traded baskets in the final minute of the quarter and after one Lake Region led 20-16.

In the second quarter the Royals were able to stretch their lead to nine three times. With the score 32-23 in favor of the Royals the Ladyjack offense got rolling. A pair of threes by Peterson and Alexa St Pierre cut the lead to just three for LRSC. After pair of free throws from Hall the lead was just one. A baseline jumper for Koylynn Gulliford gave DCB the lead back. Another Alexa St Pierre three gave DCB their largest lead of the night at 36-32. The Ladyjacks finished the quarter on a 13-0 run.

Lake Region came out firing in the third quarter and took back control of the game with a 49-42 lead. DCB would not go away through with Hall knocking down a pair of free throws. Down the stretch of the third quarter every time the Royals scored DCB had an answer. At the end of the quarter LRSC held a 53-48 lead. In the fourth both offenses were stagnant over the first three in a half minutes. Alyssa St Pierre had a nice move to get the scoring going and cut the lead to just three. The Ladyjacks got a defensive stop and on the ensuing offensive possession Koylynn Gulliford got an and-1 opportunity to tie the game. Gulliford missed the free throw, but the lead was cut to just on a 53-52. After the Ladyjacks defense held the Royals scoreless for four and a half minutes of the quarter Kyra Fitzgerald knocked down a corner three to stretch the LRSC lead back to four. Jacie Hall answered back to cut the lead back to just two. Over the final four minute the Royals were able to get their offense going and play solid defense finishing the game on a 9-2 run and ending the late DCB rally. LRSC won by a final score of 65-56.

Jacie Hall picked up here 12th double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. She was joined in double-figures by Sabra Peterson and Alyssa St Pierre who each had 11 points. Kyra Fitzgerald led Lake Region with 18 points

With the loss The Ladyjacks fall to 6-13 overall and 0-10 in the Mon-Dak. The Ladyjacks return home to "The Woodshed" Sunday to host Miles Community College game time set for noon.
