Ladyjacks Fall to Tetons

In their return to conference play the Ladyjacks Basketball team fell to the Williston State College Tetons 69-50.

It was a defensive battle for much of the first quarter with the teams being tied at 3-3 for a long stretch of the first 10 minutes. Sabra Peterson got past the defense and Jacie Hall found her for an easy two points putting the Ladyjacks out front. A few possessions later the Tetons would tie the game. Emily Kurkowski would hit a corner three to put WSC up 8-5. Alexa St Pierre would connect with Peterson on the wing to answer with a three of her own to tie the game back up. The Tetons got their offense going in the final two minutes and finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 17-8 lead after the first quarter.

The Tetons stretched the run to 13-0 to start the second quarter. Alexa St Pierre got the scoring going for DCB in the second with a three from the top of the key. Strong defense and good ball movement allowed the Ladyjacks to cut the deficit to just three at 23-20 halfway through the quarter. The Teton offense got on a hot streak again as they went on another 9-0 run over the next two minutes to stretch the lead back to 12 at 32-20. DCB had a lot of shots near the basket but the length of the WSC interior players altered many looks for the Ladyjack post players. At the half the Tetons had stretched their lead to 40-32.

The two teams played back and forth for much of the third quarter. After being held scoreless in the first half Koylynn Gulliford was able to get her offense going scoring four points in the quarter. After three quarters Williston State led by a score of 56-34. In the fourth Alyssa St Pierre really heated up scoring 12 of her team high 16 points in the quarter. St Pierre went 5-9 from the field and 2-3 on three pointers in the quarter. DCB outscored WSC in the final ten minutes, but it was not enough as Williston State would go on to win the game by a final score of 69-50.

Alyssa St Pierre led the Ladyjacks with 16 points. She was joined in double figures by Jacie Hall with 15 points, Hall added 15 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Emily Kurkowski led the Tetons and all scorers with 23 points. With the loss the Ladyjacks fall to 6-11 overall and 0-8 in Mon-Dak play. DCB is back in action in "The Woodshed" Sunday afternoon against Bismarck State College with game time set for 1:00p.m.
