Ladyjacks start 2022 of Right

The Ladyjacks finished off their 2021 campaign with a win against Turtle Mountain Community College 83-53, they looked to start the 2022 campaign the same way against Northland Community College. Both teams were supposed to square off before the end of the previous semester but due to weather they had to reschedule the game.

To start the game off for the Ladyjacks they would battle with the Pioneers to a 15-15 tie after the 1st quarter. In most games in 2021 Ladyjacks defense was the deciding factors in the games they played, it was no different in this game as the Ladyjacks would hold the Pioneers to 6 points in the 2nd quarter. Making the halftime score 32-21, a lead the Ladyjacks would greatly grow in the 2nd half. The Pioneers would only score 24 points in the second half, as the Ladyjacks would come out firing in the 3rd quarter putting up 22 of their own points. After adding 18 in the final quarter the final score would read Ladyjacks 72 Pioneers 45.

The Ladyjacks were able to force 28 turnovers out of the Pioneers, while only committing 9 turnovers of their own. The Ladyjacks would shot 45% from inside the arc (30/67), while shooting 35% (10/29) from behind. Maria Moore filled up the stat sheet for the Ladyjacks, her stat line would read 18 points, 7 steals, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists to go with it. Haylie Conradsen would be a major reason in causing the Pioneers to turn the ball over, as she would create 7 steals of her own.

"What a great way to start the 2022 part of our season. We beat a very good Northland team with a very solid team effort. They are currently ranked #5 in Division 3 and will very likely be a National Tournament participant at their level." Coach Johnson commented. He would also point to the pressure the Ladyjacks would provide in the game stating "Turnover statistics point to our effort on both ends of the court. We only committed 9 turnovers to their 28. That obviously led to the huge difference in field goal attempts."

The Ladyjacks will be back in action this upcoming Thursday as they travel to Williston to take on the Tetons. The last time the Tetons and the Ladyjacks squared off was on November 7th, this being one of the games the Ladyjacks would fall in this season 86-58. "They are a tough match up for us as they have shooters all over the floor and they are athletic. They are much better than their record at this time so we will need to bring our "A" game. That's another good challenge and one that we believe we are ready to accept." Coach Johnson had to say about the upcoming game.
