WBB Concludes Season

The DCB Women's Basketball Team concluded their 2019-20 season by falling to United Tribes Technical College 100-83 on Wednesday, February 26th.

The game was high scoring throughout, but especially in the first quarter as the teams went up and down the court trading baskets.  UTTC lead 32-24 after the 1st and extended the lead to 51-39 by halftime.  The Thunderbirds extended the lead to 20 at the end of the 3rd quarter and the deficit was too big for the Ladyjacks to make up.  For the game, DCB had 4 players in double figures led by Trinity Goggles with 24 points.  Sydnie Nelson added 20 points while Taylor Keplin and Melayna Four Bears chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.  Nelson also grabbed game highs in rebounds (7) and assists (5) for the Ladyjacks as well.

From Coach Johnson; "Unfortunately, every season has to come an end. This one just ended sooner than we had hoped.  We came to play and played well but United Tribes just played better.  It was a tough game to lose but at least we felt we had given an excellent effort."

DCB concludes its season with a 12-20 record.  They will have some good players returning and Coach Johnson is optimistic.

"It's now time to reflect on 2020 and then start to prepare for the 2020-21 season.  We feel we have a solid returning group and a very good recruiting class coming in, so we are optimistic.  That being said, we are certainly losing two sophomores who have been such important part of the Ladyjacks for the last two seasons and will be difficult to replace.  Not only have Syd (Nelson) and Taylor (Keplin) been key players on the court, they have both been great examples of the type of student/athlete that represent our Ladyjacks and DCB with the type of dignity we value.  Good luck to both young ladies.  They will do well in life and will always be a big part of the Ladyjacks legacy."

UTTC ended up winning the Region Championship this past weekend, defeating Gogebic CC in Michigan.  The All-Region team was announced this weekend as well with Sydnie Nelson earning honors for the Jacks.
