WBB plays league leaders tough

On Wednesday, January 22nd, the MonDak leading Miles CC women's basketball team came to Bottineau and barely escaped with a 78-70 win over the Ladyjacks.  DCB is getting stronger as the season progresses in the hopes of a 3rd NJCAA Division II national tournament experience later in the season.

Except for the 2nd quarter, DCB and Miles played pretty even basketball.  However, the Pioneers outscored the Ladyjacks 26-17 in that stanza to account for the final margin.  DCB actually outscored Miles in the 2nd half and tied the game up with about 6 minutes left, but Miles pulled away with a late run.  Sydnie Nelson had a great game, scoring 22 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.  Taylor Keplin and Jayla Howard each scored 12 points while Trinity Goggles continued her domination of the boards recently by pulling down another 15 rebounds while also leading the Ladyjacks in assists with 5.

From Coach Johnson; "This was a good effort for our ladies.  We battled the top team in the MonDak and had a legitimate chance to come up with a "W".  In spite of falling behind by 14 points in the first half to a very good team we continued to battle.  I was very happy with a lot of things tonight.  Our competitive, next play mentality topped the list.  Overall it has to be a confidence builder for our team.  When we can play with the heavy weights of the conference it should show the ladies the progress they have made this season."

After a big win last week over United Tribes and competitive games against two very strong Division 1 programs in their last 3 games, the Ladyjacks face another big game on Monday night as they travel to Williston to face the Tetons.  Although WSC is a Division One program, DCB has played them very tough recently and this game could have post-season implications for DCB at the end of the conference season.  Tip off is 5:30 in Williston on Monday night.
