Ladyjacks split a pair of MonDak Games

After a tough loss a week ago to Bismarck State, DCB Women's basketball game back with a couple of strong performances to gain momentum heading into the heart of their MonDak schedule.

On Thursday, January 16th, DCB won a big game against United Tribes Technical College, defeating the Thunderbirds 76-74 in overtime.  This was a big game as UTTC and DCB are NJCAA Division II members and the two squads always battle for home court advantage for the Region playoffs.

In this game, the Ladyjacks had a great first half and jumped out to a 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter before a late UTTC rally to tie the game and send it into OT.  DCB outscored UTTC 9-7 in the extra period to pull out the victory.  Sydnie Nelson and Trinity Goggles each scored 19 points to lead DCB, while Taylor Keplin and Lauren Gangl contributed 18 and 11 points respectively.  Goggles also snared 13 rebounds in the victory.

From Coach Johnson; "What a huge win this was for our ladies.  It was a hard-fought battle, like it always seems to be against the Thunderbirds.  We did a good job of taking care of the ball throughout the evening and that was a major difference in the outcome.  We attacked the basket at the end and scored some critical baskets while also knocking in some pressure free throws.  Overall, it was a total team effort from everyone who stepped on the court."

On Sunday, DCB traveled to Glendive, MT to face Dawson CC.  The Ladyjacks got off to a big first quarter lead before Dawson rallied.  DCB played tough the rest of the game, but the Lady Bucs held on for a 68-60 victory.  Taylor Keplin had another good game with a game high 21 points.  Sydnie Nelson scored 10, adding 3 assists.

From Coach Johnson; "Good effort today by our ladies in spite of the final score not being in our favor.  We really came out early playing excellent basketball on both ends of the court.   Everyone played hard and made solid contributions.  Overall, it was a positive week for our ladies as we still look to improve and play our best basketball down the stretch."

DCB's schedule does not get any easier as the Ladyjacks take on the MonDak Conference leading Miles CC Pioneers on Wednesday at the Woodshed.  Game time is 5:30.
