Ladyjacks Open Up MonDak Conference Play

Ladyjacks Open Up MonDak Conference Play

DCB opened up conference play Wednesday evening with a tough 74-66 loss to Lake Region State College.  The Ladyjacks played the Lady Royals tough throughout the game, cutting the LRSC lead to 3 late before the Royals pulled ahead in the last minute.

LRSC opened up an early 6 point lead, but DCB stayed close and only trailed 38-31 at halftime.  LRSC extended the lead to 13 points at the end of the third quarter, but a 13-2 Ladyjack run cut the lead to 62-59 with only a couple of minutes to play.  Lake Region held on though, and opened on MonDak play with a victory.

Trinity Goggles had another good game for DCB leading the team in scoring (21 pts) , assists (6), and rebounds (15).  Jayla Howard contributed 12 points and Taylor Keplin scored 11 for the Ladyjacks.  Sydnie Nelson added 5 assists for DCB.

From Coach Johnson:  "In spite of the loss I thought it was a good conference opener for us.  I thought we competed hard and did a lot of good things.  Neither team shot the ball all that well from the field, and our inability to knock down many threes was really a factor.  I felt we took good shots, but it was one of those nights when the basket seemed small.  We know the remaining conference schedule will be tough, but our game with Lake Region should give us confidence that we can play with the power teams in the MonDak."

DCB will play Canadian Mennonite University in a non-conference tilt Saturday.  Game time is 1 PM in Winnipeg.  The Ladyjacks will face Bismarck State in Monday as conference play gets back under way.
