WBB weekend recap

DCB Women's Basketball began the 2nd half of the 2019-20 season at the Northland CTC Classic in Thief River Falls, Minnesota this past weekend with a split.  They fell to the host Northland team on Friday by a score of 76-65, but came back Saturday with a 81-63 victory over Rainy River Community College.

In Friday's game, DCB started out strong, but the Pioneers went on a 14-0 run in the 1st quarter and lead by 9 at halftime.  NCTC built the lead to 14 in the 2nd half before DCB cut the deficit to 6 with about 5 minutes left.  The Ladyjacks could get no closer however.

From Coach Johnson:  "Overall I was happy with our effort, especially in the second half.  We did a good job of taking care of the basketball against a very good pressure defense.  We executed fairly well offensively and shot a pretty solid percentage for the game.  The two factors that hurt us were their hot shooting from behind the three point line and their domination on the boards.  They shot a season high 47% from "3" and had an 18 to 3 advantage on the offensive boards. Both factors were something we could not overcome."

Trinity Goggles led DCB with 21 and 7 rebounds, while Morgan Reiser contributed 16points.  Sydnie Nelson had a game-high 5 assists to go along with 13points.

Saturday, the Ladyjacks broke open a tight game with a 22-2 run in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.  Taylor Keplin led DCB in scoring with 19 points, while Trinity Goggles had 17 points and an incredible 19 rebounds.  Sydnie Nelson, Shadlyn Severance, and Melania Four Bears also scored in double figures for the Ladyjacks.

From Coach Johnson: "We put together an awesome third quarter and it was enough to carry us to our first 2020 win.  I thought we played a very good defensive quarter after the halftime break plus we did an excellent job of sharing the basketball and finding the open teammate throughout the game."

DCB improves to 8-7 overall with the split and will open up MonDak Conference play on Wednesday night at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake.  Livestream info will be released on our Twitter and Facebook pages on Wednesday.
