Jacks Drop Back and Forth Game to Pioneers

The Miles Community College Pioneers would pull away from the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks late in what was otherwise a very back and forth game to win 84-74.

After DCB raced out to a 5-0 lead to start the game the teams played back and forth for the first twenty minutes. At the half the Jacks held a 38-36 lead. The Jacks got a nice offensive lift in the first half from Brayden West-Linnett who was making his first start and knocked down a couple of three pointers.

The Jacks were able to get things rolling in the early going in the second half and were able to take their largest lead of the night at 56-46 with just over 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Pioneers didn't go away and began to chip away at the DCB lead. An 11-0 MCC run over the next three minutes would give them the lead at 57-56. Over the next handful of possessions, the teams traded baskets and the lead. The Pioneers would be the team that would be able to get the momentum on their side and take control of the game in the closing minutes. The Pioneers outscored the Lumberjacks 15-8 over the final 7:20 to take a 84-74 victory.

The game saw 5 ties and the lead changed hands 19 times. Brendan Redhead led all scorers and four Lumberjacks in double-figures with 23 points. Max Groom dropped in 18 points, Danny Lazic scored 14 points, and pulled in 11 rebounds for a double-double, West-Linnett also finished in double-figures with 11 points. Ethan Venema led the Pioneers with 14 points.
