Jacks Rally Late to Keep Win Streak Alive

It would take a late game rally for the DCB Men's Basketball Team to pull off the win against Miles Community College and stretch their win streak to nine games.

The Jacks offense struggled to get going in the first half committing 10 first half turnovers. The shorthanded Pioneers were able to hang right with the Jacks in the first half of play. Brendan Redhead paced the Jacks early with 14 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Ben Datro led the Pioneers with 10 first half points. Late in the first half MCC saw foul trouble as Denzel Kabassele picked up his fourth and Datro had three fouls, The Pioneers only had six players available for the contest. At the break however the score was tied at 39-39.

The Pioneers opened the second half on a 11-4 run forcing the Jacks to take a timeout. MCC would stretch their lead to 10 with about 16 minutes to play. A 5-0 DCB run would get the lead back to down 5 at 55-50. MCC responded with a 5-0 run of their own to push the lead back to 10. The largest the Pioneer would get is 11 with 10:45 to play at 65-54. Another 5-0 run by the Jacks would cut the lead to six and force a MCC timeout. Out of the timeout Blessing Adesipe would respond for the Pioneers with an elbow jumper. It appeared every time DCB would go on a mini 5-0 run MCC would have answer. Brendan Redhead went on a 5-0 run of his own for the Jacks to cut the Pioneer lead to just one with 6:34 to play. Jacob Smith would grab one of his 10 offensive rebounds and put it back up and in to give the Jacks their first lead since the first half at 71-70 with 5:19 remaining. Payton Kokot would give MCC the lead back a few possessions later by getting free underneath the basket. On the ensuing Jacks possession Max Groom would get a driving lay up to go and put DCB back out front. A steal and pass ahead from Jacob Smith to Max Groom would get the crowd on their feet and push the Jacks lead to six. DCB would get the needed stops down the stretch to go on to win by the final of 89-82.

Brendan Redhead led four Jacks in double-figures and all scores with 27 points. Jacob Smith scored 22 points and was a monster on the glass with 15 rebounds. Max Groom dropped in 14 and Loukas Triantis scored 11. Blessing Adesipe scored 22 to lead the Pioneers.

With the win the Jacks move to 16-4 and 9-2 in the Mon-Dak. Their nine consecutive wins is the second most in the last 11 seasons trailing the 2017-18 team that won 15 straight games. DCB is back in action Thursday night taking on the team that currently sits first in the Mon-Dak Dawson Community College. Game time is set for 7:30p.m.
