Jacks Split First Two of Mon-Dak Tip-Off Tournament

The DCB Lumberjacks Men's Basketball team earned a split of their first games of the Mon-Dak Tip-off Tournament. The Jacks fell in the opening round to Dawson Community College 74-68 and came back and won their conciliation bracket game against Williston State College 65-59.

In their first contest of the tournament the Jacks battled hard in the first half with the Bucs trading the lead multiple times. Late in the first half Dawson started to pull away with an 8-0 run. The Jacks were able to answer with back-to-back Jacob Smith 3-pointers getting the lead down to 32-30 at the half.

The Jacks were able to retake the lead briefly in the second half, but 29 turnovers proved to be costly. With Just over three minutes to play DCB trailed by 11 and hope looked lost. However, the Jacks didn't quit. A Brendan Redhead lay-up with 53 seconds to play brought the Jacks within three. DCB was unable to get a stop and had to foul. In the end the final score would be 74-68. DCB was led in scoring by Jacob Smith with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Brendan Redhead joined him in double figures with 16 points. Connor Trahan hit three 3-pointers to give him 9 points.

The Jacks and the Tetons both struggled to score early on with both teams held under twenty points for much of the first half. Late in the first half the Jacks started to heat up as they finished the half on a 16-4 run to take a 33-19 lead into the locker-room. The Jacks started the second half by extending their lead to the largest of the game at 16. This is where the Tetons started to claw their way back into the game. WSC was able to get the game within one at 51-50, but the Jacks responded. Brendan Redhead knocked down two quick buckets to give the Jacks some breathing room. DCB finished the game on a 15-9 run, winning by a final score of 65-59. Redhead led all scorers with 28 points he also had 11 rebounds. Jacob Smith joined him in double-figures with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

With the results the Jacks improve to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Mon-Dak. They will play Miles Community College for 5th place tomorrow at 10:15a.m.
