Lumberjacks win in the State Capital

Monday night the Lumberjacks traveled down to the state capital to take on the Mystics. Coming into the ball game the Lumberjacks were 7-8, while the Mystics were 8-7. Both teams neck-and-neck in the Mon-Dak standings. The last time these two teams squared off was in the Pre-Season Mon-Dak Conference Tournament, resulting in a Mystics win of 84-67.

This time around, the game would be a lot closer, as it was close through the whole game. After the first half, the Lumberjacks left 40-38, a half that saw the Lumberjacks shoot 54.8% from the field. Deron McDaniel led the way in the first half, dumping in 11 points. In the second half, the Mystics had the upper hand and outscored the Lumberjacks 45-43, setting up overtime between the two teams. In overtime, the Lumberjacks put the game away by out scoring the Mystics 9 to 5. The Lumberjacks were able to go 3 for 6 from the line down the stretch to ice the game away. The final score was 92-88.

The Lumberjacks had four players score in double figures. McDaniel's led the way with 27 points for the Lumberjacks. He was followed by DeAngelo Bell (19), Loukas Traintis (18), and Woodson Baptiste (21) with 15 points. Baptiste posted a double-double for the Lumberjacks as he pulled down 12 rebounds, six offensive fouls, and six defensive boards.

The Lumberjacks, after picking up a much needed conference win, will be home Wednesday night (7:30 P.M ST) as they host Lake Region Royals at the Woodshed. They will follow that this weekend with Northland Community College Pioneers. This game will also be at the Woodshed starting at 3:00 P.M ST.
