Slow start dooms Lumberjacks

For the Lumberjacks basketball team, their first action of the 2022 season came in Williston as they traveled out to face the Tetons. The two teams squared off previously on November 20th in the Woodshed and saw the Lumberjacks win 95-77. In that game the Lumberjacks came out and scored 51 points in the first half.

This time on the road the Lumberjacks were only able to play six players due to Covid/Travel issues with weather after the holiday break. The Lumberjacks only scored 34 points while allowing the Tetons to get into a flow and score 46. Adjustments were made at halftime that aided in the Lumberjacks to climb back into the ball game. At one point the Lumberjacks were down by 20 but they were able to trim it down to a 6-point game. In the end though, the Tetons were able to get some much-needed stops on the defensive end to win the game 86-76.

The Lumberjacks had four out of their six players score in double figures. DeAngelo Bell led the Lumberjacks in scoring, as he totaled 19 points. Deron McDaniel and Loukas Triantis added with 16 points each, followed by Woodson Baptiste who added 14. This was Baptiste first action of the season, as he was unable to play during the fall semester. The Lumberjacks as a team shot 32-72 (44.4%) from the floor, 8-27 (29.6%) from behind the arch. Comparatively speaking, the Tetons shot 34-67 (50.7%) from the floor and 6-18 (33.3%) from behind the arch.

Up next for the Lumberjacks is a road game as they travel to Bismarck to take on the Mystics on Monday. The Mystics are currently 8-7 and are coming off a win against Lake Region Royals. The final score in that one was 80-73. The Lumberjacks will then on Wednesday square off with the Royals at home in the Woodshed.
