Bottineau's Thorson Signs With Presentation College

Bottineau's Thorson Signs With Presentation College

For the past decade there is not been a more recognizable name at the Lumberyard than Wolfdon Thorson. Thorson will continue his baseball career at Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota after signing a NAIA Letter of Intent last week.

His unique name stands out but he also stood out on the field.  Thorson, who played high school baseball at the Lumberyard, came to Dakota College at Bottineau in the Fall of 2017 and would begin a three year journey as a Jack.

His first year, Wolfdon decided to redshirt. He spent the year working on his game under former Coach Mike Green.

Year two he was reunited with his former coach and current DCB Head Coach, fellow Bottineau native Mark LaCroix.  Wolfdon spent his 2nd season as a primary weapon in the Lumberjacks lineup, continuously on base for the Lumberjacks in the leadoff position.  He batted .317 with a stellar .491 OBP.

The 3rd year was greatly affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic as it saw Thorson's sophomore season cut short only after a few games.  Trying to find a home in a strange world of recruiting was not easy.  With only one year on a collegiate field Thorson was elated to sign with Presentation.  The Saints are part of the North Star Conference.

In his 3 years at DCB Thorson was noted for being one of the hardest workers on the team, year in and year out.  "He was a great example for what we wanted our players to be here. Hard-nosed, blue collar work ethic, and always gave everything he had", Coach LaCroix stated.  "I had the privilege of coaching Wolfdon at a young age and watched him develop through the years. One of the best young men I have had the privilege to coach. I can't say thank you enough as I wouldn't be where I am today without having the opportunity to coach Wolfdon."

At Presentation Thorson will be a two way player getting the opportunity to pitch as well as in the outfield. "Thorson has always been an on-base machine, always finding ways to get on base and make things happen for his teammates" added Lacroix.

When asked about his thoughts on going to Presentation, Thorson was excited to say the least. "Good program, they have a lot of to offer and are headed in a good direction. I am looking to make an impact right away when arrive." The Saints get a quality student-athlete as Thorson  was just named to the MonDak All-Academic Team for the 2020 season. Thorson is the 4th Lumberjacks player to commit to a 4-year university this Spring.
