First of Jacks Baseball players moving on

When Coach Mike Greene first took over the Jacks baseball program he had this to say. " My job is to see all my sophs who want to continue playing baseball sign a letter of intent to a 4 year, and to graduate."  Well, four Jacks players recently committed to various 4-year programs around the nation.

"I'm so proud of the character of these guys," said Coach Greene.  "You try to bring in great talent, along with great individuals and these guys have worked hard to fulfill another dream in their baseball careers."

Carter Sorenson has signed a scholarship offer to Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana.  So far this season, Sorenson has thrown 16 2/3 innings for the Jacks, accumulated 19 strikeouts to only 3 walks and has an ERA of 4.86. "Carter is throwing strikes and challenging hitters this season and has been dominating in a closer role," said coach Greene.  Carter is from Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

JJ Castelvecchi has committed to the University of Mary in Bismarck to continue his pitching career. JJ has posted a 5.01 ERA in 23 1/3 innings pitched so far in 2018 and has a 3-1 record.  Coach Greene states that: "JJ gives us quality innings every time out and has matured into a strong left handed arm. U of Mary is getting a very good lefty arm, individual, and teammate."  JJ is from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Nick Sumstine has accepted a scholarship from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.  From Coach Greene:  "Nick has been our MVP and a huge part of the turnaround of Lumberjack baseball. He has been the team captain, leadoff hitter, shortstop and top pitcher in the Mon-Dak for 2 years. He is going to be tough to replace. So far this spring, Nick is hitting .460 with a .597 on base percentage, and has thrown 9 innings of 0.00 ERA ball, and has 15 strikeouts to 2 walks.

Blake Alexander has also committed to playing at Central Washington University along with Sumstine.  Blake is from Australia and came half way around the world to be at DCB.  "Blake has worked extremely hard to develop his game and will be a good lefty reliever for CWU. He is a great teammate, person and student and I'm sure will be successful in life with his attitude and work ethic," stated Coach Greene.

The Jacks will announce another group of signings soon after plans are finalized.
