Jack Win One at Big Mountain Showcase

The Lumberjack Men's hockey team picked up one win during the Big Mountain Showcase. The Jacks dropped two games and lost a shootout.

4-1 Loss Metropolitan State Denver

The Roadrunners put three goals on the board in the first period and added a goal in the second to make it 4-0. DCB got their only goal of the game when Riley Opperude scored on the powerplay, Matt Olson picked up the assist.

8-5 Loss to Boise State

The Broncos held a 3-0 first period lead before Jacob Measel put the Jacks on the board late in the period with an assist coming from Leighton Holstein. Zach Diehl would bring the Jacks within one at 3-2 Aiden Morelli, and Ethan Siemens picked up the assists. Boise State would score three straight goals to stretch the lead to 6-2 Diehl scored his second of the period to try and cut into the Bronco's lead, but Boise would squeak another goal in to take a lead, into the final period. The Broncos were able to stretch their lead to 8-3 with less than three minutes to go in the game. DCB attempted a late comeback scoring two quick goals, the first coming from Morelli and the second coming on the powerplay from Holstein, Dodge Long was credited with the assist.  Time would run out in the Jacks comeback attempt and the Broncos picked up the win 8-5.

5-2 Win over Utah State

Two first period goals by Long gave the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead after on period. Holstien and Jace Thompson each picked up an assist. Olson started the scoring for the Jacks in the second period and gave DCB a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back goals by Utah State brought them back to within one goal at 3-2. With less then two minutes remaining in the period the Jacks found themselves on the powerplay and Holstien was able to find the back of the net, Opperude and Fabian Vik were credited with assists. Olson put the game away in the third period with his second goal of the game, Thompson and Opperude each picked up their second assist of the night. Mason Matthew had 40 saves and picked up the win in net.

4-3 SO Loss to Weber State

Weber State got on the board first just two minutes into the game. DCB would take the lead in the second period with two goals within less than a minute of each other. The first goal came on the powerplay when Logan Mantell found the net, Kolby Adair and Measel snagged the assists. Holstein gave the Jacks the lead momentarily with Thompson and Measel dishing the assists. The Wildcats would quickly tie the game and then retake the lead with two quick goals. However, the lead would be short lived as 1:40 later Dale Kjorstad would tie the game back up Rory McNabb and Adair picked up the assists. Neither team was able to score in the third period or overtime. Weber State would be able to score in the shootout and pick up the win.

After the weekend DCB sits at 11-11-1-2. Next up for the Lumberjacks they hit the road January 26th and 27th to take on Minnesota Crookston.
