Jacks Drop Two Heartbreakers to Argos

 The Lumberjack men's hockey team dropped a pair of tough losses this weekend to University of Providence out of Montana 3-2 in OT and a 5-4 shootout loss Saturday.

3-2 OT Loss

The Argos got on the board first just five minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Late in the first period the Jacks had a powerplay opportunity and were able to capitalize as Leighton Holstein found the back of the net, Matt Olson and Riley Opperude picked up the assists. Just past the halfway point of the second period Aiden Morelli would put DCB out front 2-1. Jace Thompson and Jacob Measel got the assists. Providence would even the game just seven minutes into the third period. With neither team able to find the net the remainder of the period the teams went into overtime. In the final minute of overtime, the Argos would score to win the game 3-2.

5-4 Shootout loss.

Olson put the Jacks on the board first with a powerplay goal less than five minutes into the game Holstein and Kolby Adair had the assists. Holstein pushed the DCB lead to 2-0 in the second period Thompson snagged the assist. Providence would get one back just three minutes later a powerplay goal of their own. A scoring frenzy would break out in the final period. Thompson would give the Jacks a two-goal advantage two minutes into the final period of play Morelli was credited with the assist. Providence would get the deficit back to one at 3-2 on a power play goal. Zach Diehl answered for DCB with a powerplay goal of his own, Holstein and Opperude picked up the assists. Providence would score yet another powerplay goal to bring them back within one goal at 4-3. The Argos would tie the game with 34 seconds remaining in regulation at 4-4. Neither team would score in overtime and head to a shootout. In the shootout Providence would come out on top and win the matchup 5-4.

With the losses DCB falls to 8-5-1-1. Next up for the Jacks they host the University of Jamestown on Wednesday at 7:30p.m.
