Jacks Win Two in Minnesota

For the second straight weekend the Lumberjack men's hockey team went 2-1 on the weekend. Falling to St Thomas 5-1 and picking up a sweep of Waldorf's ACHA D1 team 3-2 and 6-1.

5-1 Loss to St Thomas.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the first period The Tommies outshot DCB 18-8 in the first period. St Thomas put two goals on the board past the halfway point to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. After two periods the Tommies had a 39-15 SOG advantage over the Jacks. In the third St Thomas was able to push their lead to 4-0. The Jacks got on the board with three minutes remaining on a powerplay goal from Fabian Vik with the assist going to Riley Opperude. St Thomas would get one more goal across to win 5-1.

3-2 Win over Waldorf

Aiden Morelli would strike first for the Jacks with an assist going to Dodge Long. DCB would hold that lead as the first period came to an end. The Jacks outshot the Warriors in the first period 14-9. The Warriors would tie the game four minutes into the second period at 1-1. The game would only be tied for 1:18 as Zach Diehl would give the Jacks the lead back off an assist from Vik. After two periods the Jacks held a 23-19 SOG advantage over the Warriors. With under five minutes to play in the game Morelli would net his second goal of the night on a powerplay opportunity. Matt Olson and Jacob Measel picked up the assists. Waldorf would score with 32 seconds remaining to make it 3-2. The Jacks would hold on for the final half minute for the 3-2 win. Rylan Labrie would pick up the win in net with 30 saves.

6-1 Win over Waldorf

The Jacks would score the first goal of the contest with just 12 seconds remaining in the first period when Leighton Holstein found the back of the net Jace Thompson and Measel were credited with the assists. After one period DCB held a 13-11 SOG advantage over WU. The Jacks stretched their lead to 2-0 after a Brendan Gingras goal, Alex Lorenz and Kole Fitzpatrick assisted. DCB kept the scoring train going as just before the halfway point Diehl scored on the powerplay with assists coming from Morelli and Kolby Adair. The Jacks broke it open with a 4-0 lead after Holstein connected with his second goal of the night Vik and Thompson snagged the assists. Waldrof would get one goal back with a powerplay goal with under a minute remaining in the period. After two periods DCB held a 4-1 lead. The Jacks would score two goals in the third period, the first coming from Opperude on the powerplay with the assist coming from Vik. The final goal of the night came from Dale Kjorstad unassisted. DCB would win by a final score of 6-1. Mason Matthew was the winning goalie with 38 saves.

With the win the Jacks improve to 6-2 on the season. Next up the Jacks host Montana State for a pair of games at home Friday and Saturday.
