Jacks Take Two at Marian Showcase

The Lumberjack Men's Hockey team went 2-1 during their three-game series at the Marian Showcase. The Jacks had wins over Trine University 4-3 in overtime and a 7-2 win over the host school Marian. DCB fell 4-0 to St Thomas.

4-3 OT Win over Trine

It would be Trine University getting on the board first with a goal just prior to the halfway point of the first period. The Thunder would hold that lead as the teams headed to the locker-room for the first intermission. After one period Trine held 16-13 shots on goal advantage. The Jacks tied the game early in the second period after Leighton Holstein found the back of the net off an assist from Jace Thompson. The Thunder would grab the lead back with six and a half minutes remaining in the period. Trine would not hold the lead for long as the Lumberjacks would tie the game back up on a powerplay goal from Holstein, Thompson picked up another assist. The scoring didn't stop there as Aiden Morelli would give the Jacks their first lead of the contest at 3-2 with just under three minutes remaining in the second period, Zach Diehl and Kolby Adair would be awarded the assists. After two periods the Thunder held a 32-23 SOG advantage. Late in the third period Trine would tie the game at 3-3 and the teams would head to overtime. In the overtime period Morelli would find the back of the net for the second time in the contest and give the Jacks the win. Diehl and Adair also picked up their second assists of the game. The Thunder outshot the Lumberjacks 47-34 in the contest. Mason Matthew picked up the win between the pipes.

4-0 Loss to St Thomas

St Thomas would get on the board with just over twelve minutes remaining in first period. The Tommies added another with just over five minutes remaining in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the break. St Thomas held the Jacks to just one shot on goal in the first period. The Jacks were able to have a few more opportunities to score in the second but couldn't capitalize. The Tommies added a goal to make it 3-0 after two periods and held 27-15 shots on goal advantage. St Thomas would net the final goal of the game with eight minutes remaining in the period to win 4-0. DCB was outshot in the contest 39-20.

7-2 Win over Marian

Fabian Vik put the Jacks on the board first just prior to the halfway point of the first period with a powerplay goal. Holstein and Riley Opperude were credited with the assists. Marian was able to tie the game late in the first period at 1-1. After one period DCB held 17-5 shots on goal edge. Holstein would give the Jacks the lead back early in the second period and Opperude picked up his second assist of the game. The Sabres would even the game back up a few minutes later at 2-2. With just over seven minutes remaining in the second period DCB would execute on the powerplay as Dodge Long would score his first of the weekend with assists coming from Adair and Thompson. DCB would add to their lead making it 4-2 with five minutes remaining when Rory McNabb found the back of the net Logan Mantell picked up the assist. DCB held 34-20 shots on goal advantage after two periods. The Jacks poured it on late in the final period with three goals in the final 3:45 of play. First it was Holstein scoring assisted by Long, McNabb would score next with an assist from Morelli, and the final goal came from Alex Lorenz, and he as assisted by Jacob Measel. When the horn sounded DCB skated off with a 7-2 victory. The Jacks out shot the Sabres 47-29 in the contest. Rylan Labrie picked up the win in net.

With the weekend results DCB moves to 4-1 on the season. Next up for the Lumberjacks The are back on the road Thursday to take on St Thomas gametime is set for 8:00p.m.
