Thompson's Big Day Results in Milestone Victory for Rybchinski

Jace Thompson scored four goals and was credited with two assists in the Lumberjacks 10-2 victory over the Lake Region State College Royals Saturday afternoon. As a result of the victory head coach Travis Rybchinski picked up career win 325 at DCB moving him past former head coach Garry Warren.

It would be the Royals who got on the board first in the period scoring just three minutes into the game. Fabian Vik would even the score just a little over two minutes later Ethan Siemens and Brendan Gingras were credited with assists. LRSC would retake the lead just past the halfway point of the period. After that it would be a scoring frenzy for the Lumberjacks Thompson scored his first of the game tying the game at 2-2, with assists coming from Dodge Long and Jacob Measel. Just nine seconds later the Jacks would take the lead. It would be Long finding the back of the net with assists being given to Thompson and Leighton Holstein. DCB would take a 4-2 lead into the first intermission as Aiden Morelli scored just before the time expired in the period Zach Diehl was credited with the assist.

There would be only one goal scored in the second period as Thompson netted his second on a powerplay opportunity, Long and Holstein each picked up their second assist of the contest. After two periods the Jacks led 5-2. Thompson kept things rolling in the third period as he found the back of the net for the third time in the game just twenty-seven seconds into the final period of play. Again, it would be Long and Holstein picking up the assists. Déjà vu would strike less than a minute later as Thompson scored his fourth goal of the day and Holstein and Long had the assists. At this point DCB led 7-2. With twelve minutes remaining in the contest, it would be Holstein finding the back of the net for the Lumberjacks, Thompson and Long picked up the assists. Just past the halfway point in the final period Gingras picked up his first goal of the season to go along with his assist from earlier in the contest, Measel, and Vik snagged the assists. The final goal of the contest would come with less than two minutes remaining as Morelli picked up his second goal of the game, Diehl picked up his second assist of the day and Riley Rybchinski also picked up an assist. When the buzzer sounded the final score read 10-2 in favor of the Lumberjacks. Mason Matthew earned the win in net with 36 saves. The Jacks penalty kill was on point stopping all 11 of the Royals powerplay opportunities.

With the win the Jacks move to 2-0 early in the season. This weekend DCB will head to Wisconsin to play three games at the Marian Showcase Friday-Sunday. Stay tuned to DCB Athletics social media channels for possible ways to watch and updates.
