Coming off a season where they made a run through the West Region Tournament to qualify for the ACHA National Tournament, the Lumberjack Men's Hockey Team return a lot of experience and high expectations.
The Jacks return three of their top five point scorers from last season led by Leighton Holstein who was credited with 26 points last season. Local product Matt Olson returns after an 18-point performance a season ago, and Fabian Vik returns for his second season in Bottineau after a 15-point season last year. Between the pipes the Lumberjacks welcome back Mason Matthew who was the teams leading goalie last season. Matthew averaged 2.78 goals allowed and had .962 save percentage.
Here are some comments from Coach Rybchinski, "we are looking forward to the season. We have high expectations on building from last year's national tournament team. We have some good recruits and a bigger roster so competition will be at practice everyday."
The Jacks will host a Green and White scrimmage next Tuesday starting at 7:15p.m. DCB will officially kickoff their 2023-24 season next Thursday night on the road against Lake Region State College, puck drop is set for 8:00p.m. The home opener for the Lumberjacks will be Saturday October 21st at 3:00p.m. against Lake Region.
