Jacks Season ends in Pool Play at Nationals

The Dakota College at Bottineau Men's Hockey Team saw their season end in pool play at the National Tournament as the Jacks dropped all three games in the pool. In their first game the Jacks fell to eventual pool winner UMASS 3-2. Saturday they dropped a game to Florida Gulf Coast University 5-2, and closed out the National Tournament with an 8-0 loss to Concordia Wisconsin.

3-2 loss to UMASS

The Minutemen opened the scoring five minutes into the game to make it 1-0. UMASS doubled their lead six minutes later to make it 2-0 and it remained that way as the first period came to a close. Late in the second period the Jacks cut the lead in half as Leighton Holstein found the back of the net. Zach Diehl and Ryan Patterson picked up the assists. As the teams skated to the lokerroom to prepare for the third period UMASS led 2-1. The Minutemen would get a powerplay goal just past the half way point in the third period to make the score 3-2. DCB would try to mount a late comeback as Tyson Pringle would sore with 46 seconds remaining in regulation off a Phillip Parisien assist. The Jacks however would run out of time falling 3-2.

5-2 loss to FGCU

Neither team was able to get the offense going in the first 20 minutes of play and the teams remained tied at 0-0. Just 24 seconds into the third period the Eagles broke the soring drought making it 1-0. Late in the second period FGCU stretched their lead to 2-0. The Eagles continued to click offensively eventually making the score 4-0 in the third period. Riley Opperude got the Jacks on the board just prior to the halfway point of the third period off an assist from goalie Mason Matthew. Riley Rybchinski kept the scoring going for the Jacks with his first colligate goal with an assist from Zach Diehl making the score 4-2. FGCU would pick up an empty netter late making the final score 5-2.

8-0 loss to Concordia Wisconsin

On Sunday morning the Jacks ran into an offensive buzzsaw in the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Falcons had three goals in the first and second periods and two more in the third to make the final score 8-0

The Jacks finish their season with a record of 11-20-0-2.
