Jacks Punch Ticket to Nationals

The Lumberjack Hockey team won two games at the ACHA West Region Tournament to punch a ticket to National Tournament. Friday DCB defeated Washington 5-2 and Saturday they downed Northern Colorado 3-2.

5-2 Win

Ryan Patterson got the scoring going right away for the Jacks as he netted a goal just seven seconds into the contest, Zach Diehl and Von Mullin were credited with the assists. The Jacks stretched their lead to 2-0 late in the first thanks to a Dale Kjorstad unassisted goal. Early in the second period the Huskies cut the lead in half with a powerplay goal. Minutes later Aiden Morelli answered with a powerplay goal of his own with assists coming from Fabian Vik and Riley Opperude. Washington would score again to make the score 3-2 as the teams prepared for the third period of play. Just before the halfway point of the final period Logan Mantell would give the Jacks a two-goal cushion, Brett Janssens dished the assist. Leighton Holstein netted the final goal of the game making the score 5-2. Mullin and Rory McNabb picked up the assists. The Jacks out shot the Huskies 34-31 in the game Mason Matthew picked up the win in net.

3-2 Win

Leighton Holstein picked up right where he left off the night before with a goal to put DCB out front, Von Mullin and Riley Opperude were credited with assists. The Jacks offense continued to roll as Ryan Patterson stretched the lead to 2-0 off a Opperude assist. With three and a half minutes remaining in the period Aiden Morelli gave the Jacks a 3-0 lead, Mullin picked up his second assist of the game. The Bears picked up a goal in the second period to make the game 3-1. Late in the third period the Jacks' lead was cut to one at 3-2. Defense and good goaltending allowed DCB to hold on for the 3-2 win. Mason Matthew had 34 saves in the victory.

With the wins the Jacks move to 13-19-0-2 overall and qualify for the ACHA D2 National Tournament in Boston, MA, March 17-21st. More information on opponents and times will be shared at a later date.
