Golden Eagles too Much for Jacks

The DCB Lumberjacks Men's Hockey team was swept by the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston this weekend. A furious third period rally would not be enough for the Jacks to pick up the win Friday falling 5-3. In Saturday's game three third period goals by UMC would push them past DCB to win 5-2.

Friday 5-3 Loss

Things started rough for the Jacks as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period. Crookston out shot DCB 15-10 in the period. The second period saw UMC add two more goals to their total to take a 4-0 lead as we headed to the final period. After two periods the Golden Eagles held 32-18 shots on goal advantage. UMC tallied another goal to give them a 5-0 lead. A late rally would come up short as the Jacks would score three straight goals by Ryan Patterson, Leighton Holstein, and JJ Adams, but the Jacks would run out of time falling 5-3. Kolby Adair tallied two assists for the Jacks. UMC out shot DCB 39-27 in the contest.

Saturday 5-2 Loss

Logan Mantell got things going early for the Jacks scoring just 3:18 into the game, Fabian Vik and Ethan Siemens were each credited with an assist. The Jacks outshot the Golden Eagles 14-11 in the period. Matt Olson found the back of the net early in the second period to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead. Holstein and Patterson were both credited with assists on the goal. UMC responded quickly to make it 2-1 Jacks. The Golden Eagles got another on past goalie Mason Matthew late in the second to tie the game at 2-2. After two periods the Jacks held 29-24 shots on goal advantage. Just one minute into the third period UMC would take their first lead of the contest a lead they would hold for good. The Golden Eagles would score two more goals in the first ten minutes of the period and go on to win by a final score of 5-2. The Jacks out shot the Golden Eagles 42-39 in the contest. A big difference maker was the Jacks were 0/4 on the power play where as UMC was able to connect on two of their four attempts.

With the loss DCB falls to 3-6-0-2 overall. The Jacks are back in action Tuesday to take on Williston State College on the road. Game time is set for 7:00p.m.
