Jacks Win Thrilling Home Opener

Jacks Win Thrilling Home Opener

It would take a third period comeback and some overtime heroics, but the DCB Lumberjacks were able to win their home opener over the Utah State Aggies 2-1.

Neither team was able to find the net in the first period. The Jacks had nearly four straight minutes of power play but were unable to capitalize. Both the Jacks and Aggies had seven shots on goal. The second period saw much of the same until the Aggies were able to open the scoring just before the halfway point of the period. The Jacks had an opportunity to tie the game on a power play but were unable to score. After two periods the Jacks outshot the Aggies 16-12. DCB was able to end the scoring drought when JJ Adams lit the lamp off a Ryan Patterson assist with 14:04 remaining in the third period. Both teams had opportunities to score the go-ahead goal late in the period, but neither were successful. A handful of penalties at the end of regulation saw the Jacks take a one-man advantage into overtime. It did not take long in the overtime period for this game to be decided. Just eighteen seconds into the extra period Patterson found the back of the net to give the Jacks the 2-1 win and send the Lumberdome into a frenzy. The Jacks out shot the Aggies in the contest 39-25. Mason Matthew was the winning goalie for DCB.

With the win DCB improves to 2-2 on the season. The Lumberjacks are back in action against the Aggies Saturday with a noon start time.
