Lumberjacks skate to victory to open second half

The Lumberjacks hockey team is coming into the second semester ranked second in the West Rankings for ACHA Division 2, with an overall record off 8-5-1-1. To start the semester off, the Lumberjacks traveled down to Jamestown, North Dakota, to play Waldorf University. This was the Lumberjacks only game before they traveled down to the Big Mountain Classic Showcase in Colorado.

The Lumberjacks and the Warriors came out and skated to a 0-0 tie after the first period. In the second, it was Zane Macdonald who opened up the scoring. MacDonald was assisted on the play by Ian Amsbaugh and Phillip Parisien at the 7:28 mark. In the third, the Lumberjacks struck early as Leighton Holstein found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Joben Smith and Nic Vercaigne received the assist for Holstein's. To finish it off, Brett Janssens scored to make it 3-0 for the Lumberjacks. Amsbaugh slated another assist while Macdonald was the helping man on this Lumberjack goal as well.

The story of the night was the Lumberjack's goaltender, Jordan Berschiminsky. Berschiminsky stopped everything that came his way, knocking away every shot that came at him. He saved all 40 shots, which gave the Lumberjacks the shut out, the first of the Lumberjack's season.

Up next for the Lumberjacks will be the Big Mountain Showcase in Colorado. The Lumberjacks will square off with Weber State (Fri. Jan. 14th), Metropolitan State (Sat. Jan. 15th), Colorado (Sun. Jan. 16th), and Boise State (Mon. Jan. 17th). Following that will be a massive match up with Montana State in the Lumberdome. In the current standings the Bobcats are currently fourth in the rankings. The Lumberjacks will surely be tested over the next few weeks.
