Lumberjacks Salvage the Week

Lumberjacks Salvage the Week

This past week the Lumberjacks hockey team stepped outside of the Division 2 ranks and played Division 1 Minot State and University of Jamestown. These games were the last two for the Lumberjacks prior to winter break.

Last Wednesday the Lumberjacks traveled to the Magic City to take on the Beavers from Minot State. The MSU Beavers are currently rated #2 in the nation in the ACHA Division 1. The first period came and went, both teams were unable to score a goal. In the second period, Minot State would open up the scoring with a goal at the 3:45 mark. Not long after, the Beavers scored another goal giving them a 2-0 lead. Zane Macdonald got the Lumberjacks on the board with a goal at the 18:11 mark and Ryan Patterson would had an assist on the play. The Beavers then put the game out of reach as Connor Navrot scored putting the Beavers up 3-1. Reed Arnold added another insurance goal to the Beavers' lead in the third period giving the Beavers the win with the final score reading Beavers 4 Lumberjacks 1.

The Lumberjacks looked to bounce back as they traveled to Jamestown, ND to take on the Jimmies. After struggling in the first game of the week to score a goal, the Lumberjacks wasted no time in scoring when it came against the Jimmies. Ian Amsbaugh started the night off with a goal at the 5:39 mark in the first period. The Jimmies tied it up and both teams skated to a 1-1 tie after the first period. That was as close as the Jimmies would get, as Leighton Holstein and Amsbaugh (second goal of the night) would put the Lumberjacks up 3-1 after the second period. In the third period Chayse Haberman got in on the action scoring two of his own goals. The Jimmies added one of their own, making the final score Lumberjacks 5 Jimmies 2.

The Lumberjacks will end the fall semester with a record of 8-5-1-1. The next time that they will be back in action will be January 9th as they will play Waldorf University in Jamestown. After that the Lumberjacks will travel to Colorado (January 14th-17th) where they will play four games in four days at the Big Mountain Classic Showcase.
