Men's Hockey is Texas Bound!

The West Region's # 7 ranked team the DCB Lumberjacks have qualified for the ACHA National Championship tournament with a pair of wins in Boise, Idaho this weekend.  The team will await the brackets and prepare to travel to Frisco, Texas for the ACHA National Tournament taking place March 19-29.

The tournament started Friday with a thrilling 2-1 Overtime defeat of  #6 Weber State University.  The teams played 37 minutes without a goal until Kyle Wahoski opened the scoring at the 17:49 mark of the second period.  DCB looked like they were on their way to a tight 1-0 victory until Bryon Fobair tied the game with just 2:34 remaining in the game.  

Just 3:57 into the overtime DCB's Tucker Alspaugh scored a highlight reel goal to send the Jacks to Saturdays deciding game.  #4 Montana State University dispatched #9 Northern Arizona University with a convincing 6-0 win to set up a showdown with the Jacks.  

The Jacks started slow again with a scoreless 1st period but lit the light for three consecutive goals in the third period.  Jack Dunnell, Blake Carpenter and Donald Gaudreault opened the scoring while Goaltender Matt Trulsen turned aside numerous solid scoring chances. 

Montana State made it a 2 goal game on a goal by Ryan Padden sending the Jacks to the dressing room with a 3-1 lead.

Jack Coon scored 12 minutes into the final period giving Montana State life and some momentum.  The game ended on an empty net goal by the Jacks Blake Carpenter sealing the deal for a jubilant DCB bench!  

The Jacks join the #3 ranked Metro State University -Denver as West Region qualifiers.  #1 University of Mary and #2 Providence University had earned byes to the finals based on their top two West region rankings.
