The Lumberjack hockey team opened the 2018-19 season with a split of home games against the Montana State Bobcats.  They dropped the opener Friday night 5-2 but bounced back to take Saturday afternoon's finale 6-2.

On Friday the Jacks opened the scoring at 9:18 when Blake Carpenter scored his first of two goals to put the home side up 1-0.  It was short lived as just two minutes later the bobcats would tie it.  The Bobcats would score the only goals in the second period putting the jacks in a hole heading to the final period.  5:34 into the third period Carpenter netted his second marker but again the Bobcats answered just over a minute later pushing their lead to 4-2.  The visitors added an empty netter with just 34 seconds left to play sealing the victory for the Cats.  It was Montana State's 6th game versus just the first for the Jacks.  The Jacks actually out shot the Cats 44-42 with both goalies playing well.  Jay Pringle went the distance in the net for the Jacks.

Saturday's game was almost a mirror image of Friday's game but this time favoring the home squad.  The Bobcats got on the scoresheet first at 5:14 only to have the Jacks respond a minute later on a goal by Sanford, Manitoba's Dryden Bound.  In the second DCB jumped to the lead with goals by Carrot River, Saskatchewan's  Tyrell Pompu and fellow Canadian Kyle Peters from Killarney, Manitoba.  The Bobcats cut the lead to 3-2 to end the 2nd frame.  The Jacks put the game out of reach in the third with goals by Norwegian Daniel Nomerstad, Carberry, Manitoba's Colin Van Kommer and Peters' second of the game.

As you would expect with back-to-back games the Saturday's game got a little chippy as there were 15 minor penalties called, most roughing or stick violations.  Jay Pringle went the distance playing very well stopping 47 of 49 shots while the Jacks put 6 by Bobcats goalie Charlie Rafferty on 36 shots.

The Jacks will host North Dakota State University on Friday October 26th at 7:30pm followed by a Saturday 1:00pm start.  Both game are at the Lumberdome!
