DCB, An Athletic Program to Be Proud Of

Bottineau, North Dakota is a small town of approximately 2500 residents located about 10 miles of the Canadian border in North Central North Dakota.  It is known for its agriculture and the Turtle Mountains, a plateau between 2000-2500 feet above sea level that extends 20 miles north-south and 40 miles east-west , a beautiful wooded and lake-filled escarpment unlike any other place in North Dakota.  The winters are very cold with the average low below 5 degrees for the months of December, January, and February.  It is also located in a remote location, an hour and a half from Minot, ND, the largest city closest to "Botno."

Bottineau is also the home of Dakota College at Bottineau, a small, residential 2-year school that has called the town home since 1906.  About 1000 students total attend Bottineau with 300 living on campus every year.  It has a lovely, tree-filled campus and gives 2-year college students a "real" college experience.

DCB's athletic programs have been around almost since the founding of the college.  They are one of the smallest schools in the various leagues and associations they belong with, frequently competing with institutions 3 times or larger their size.  With its combination of location, size, and weather, there would be a natural assumption that the Lumberjacks would not have a strong athletic program.

And you would be very wrong.

With our softball team winning its first ever Region chapionship, and qualifying for the NJCAA national tournament for the first time in school history, they continue the unprecendented succes that the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks have enjoyed over the last six years both on and off the athletic fields/courts.

Since 2013, DCB has seen...

...Our Hockey team win 2 NJCAA National Championships and qualify for the Regional Tournament in their first year of ACHA competition in 2018...

...Our Women's Basketball Program win 4 NJCAA Region Championships and qualify for 2 NJCAA National Tournaments...

...Our Men's Basketball Program win 2 NJCAA Region Championships...

...Our Baseball Team set the school record for wins in a season and qualify for 2 NJCAA Regional Tournaments...

...Our Football Team win the first championship of any kind in school history, qualify for 2 NJCAA bowl games, and set the school record for wins in a season and tie that same record 2 other times.

...And see our Softball team qualify for the NJCAA Region tournament 4 times, winning it in 2019 and they will be making their first ever NJCAA National Championship Tournament appearance this Thursday in Rochester, Minnesota.

Off the playing surfaces, DCB's Athletic teams have reaped in so many academic honors both individually and as a team they are far too many to list individually.

So, if you want to see a successful athletic program of high integrity and sportsmanship, come to Bottineau, North Dakota.  Enjoy Lake Metigoshe and the Turtle Mountains and catch exciting, top-flight college athletic competition.
